Abstract: In this study, I propose to examine the presence of three epistemological causes or issues in two prologues of Ibn al-Haytham’s books, namely Optics and Doubts on Ptolemy. Through this examination, I aim to test the assumption that the questions and concerns raised in contemporary epistemology, as have arisen during the last century, align with those that occupied the mind of Ibn al-Haytham (d. 1041). This assumption is also grounded in findings from studies on induction and philosophical composition, which highlight problems in contemporary epistemology.
