Abstract: The Five Sections is a propaedeutic opuscule of al-Fārābī (Alfarabi, d. ca. 950) in which he expounds the necessary conditions for the study of the sciences, and in particular for that of logic. Ibn Bājja (Avempace, d. 1138) commented on it, focusing on some issues while other issues received less attention. This article analyses his approach to al-Fārābī’s views in order to find out his contribution: We will see how Ibn Bājja uses logical categories for a better understanding of the issues.
