Abstract: This study aims to reassess the rejection of logic held by Taqiyy al-Dīn Ibn Taymiyya (d.728/1328), in order to determine its genuine purposes, revealing its connection to Arabic logic, by reviewing his relevant works, in particular his work Response to the Logicians (al-Radd ʿalā al-Mantiqiyyīn), and verifying its originality, not in relation to the modern and contemporary criticism of the Aristotelian logic, but rather in relation to the peripatetic logic, which was the object of Ibn Taymiyya’s objections, whether in the field of definition or of reasoning. This approach consists, above all, of undertaking a reconstruction of the origins of these refutations from an Aristotelian logical point of view and in pursuing the problems of the theory of definition and syllogistics presented by Aristotle in the Organon or analyzed by the Peripatetic logic written in Arabic.
Keywords: logic, definition, concept, essence, cause, reasoning, implication.
