Abstract: This work is a translation of Ibn Rushd’s (Averroes, d. 1198) Paraphrase on Porphyry’s Isagoge from English to Arabic. The purpose of this translation is to emphasize three things. The first is to identify the early Averroism philosophy in Jewish circles in the first half of the thirteenth century which paved the way for what would be known subsequently as Judaic and Latin Averroism. The second issue is to establish that Ibn Rushd’s interpretation of the Paraphrase was according to the “real” teachings of Aristotle, not according to the teachings of Plato. This is something in which the interpretations of Porphyry deviated. The third is the view that the Jewish translator had known two other works of Ibn Rushd, the Decisive Treatise and Long Commentary on Aristotle’s Metaphysics although he did not refer to them explicitly in his Hebrew translation.
